The Mayor’s Traffic & Pedestrian Task Force is an annual ad hoc committee appointed by the Mayor to address traffic and pedestrian safety concerns within Dunellen. The task force comprises of no more than 11 members, including representatives from the business community, Board of Education, Police Department, the Dunellen Council, and residents.

The task force meets bi-monthly on the third Monday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Recreation Office.

Purpose & Function
The Mayor’s Traffic & Pedestrian Task Force brings together community stakeholders to survey, facilitate, initiate, and advise the Mayor and Council on effective ways to improve traffic conditions and pedestrian safety throughout Dunellen. Residents, council members, law enforcement, health professionals, and school officials collaborate to identify areas of concern and make recommendations for prioritizing improvements. The task force works to secure and effectively use available or potential resources.

Through these partnerships, the task force remains informed on the latest effective methods to incorporate traffic calming measures and design strategies that improve pedestrian and traffic safety.

Relevant Studies & Plans
To guide its efforts, the task force leverages findings and recommendations from several key studies and policies related to transportation and safety in Dunellen. These include:

  • Dunellen Transit Hub Plan - 2019: This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the town’s transit hub, focusing on strategies to enhance connectivity and support economic growth through improved transportation infrastructure.

  • High Street to Madison Avenue Walkable Community Workshop - 2020: This workshop identified key walkability improvements along the High Street to Madison Avenue corridor, offering actionable insights to create safer and more accessible pedestrian routes.

  • Dunellen Downtown Visual Preference Survey - 2020: In the fall of 2020, the Borough of Dunellen sent out a Visual Preference Survey to better understand the community’s preferences as we continue to welcome the redevelopment of Dunellen’s downtown. This survey collected more than 400 responses.
  • Dunellen Complete & Green Streets Policy - 2023: The 2023 policy outlines a vision for safer, more sustainable streets in Dunellen by integrating traffic calming, pedestrian safety, and green infrastructure measures.

  • Dunellen Active Transportation Planning Study - 2023: This 2023 study assesses Dunellen's community needs and opportunities related to mobility on public rights-of-way, to ensure that the community’s evolving vision for its future is comprehensive and achievable. Get Involved
