Second Street Mill & Pave Project
Project Start Date: May 5, 2025
Location: Schwartz Place to the Dunellen/Middlesex Border
Phase 1: The removal and replacement of severely damaged curbs, the removal and replacement of severely damaged sidewalks, and the removal and replacement of concrete or asphalt aprons with concrete aprons. Reparation of severely damaged sections of the asphalt base.
Phase 2: The milling and paving of 2 inches of asphalt, enhanced road striping, and site restoration.
This project is estimated to take approximately 120 days.
June 2: Curb, gutter, and sidewalk work is approximately 50% complete. Weather pending, concrete work is expected to be completed by the week of June 16. Remaining items include tree removal and installation, new roadway and pedestrian signs, milling and paving, and final restoration.
May 19: Curb installation at the Dunellen / Middlesex border was completed this past week.
May 5: The project is scheduled to start this week, weather permitting. The first step will be removing and replacing severely damaged curbs and installing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, one at the Schwartz Place intersection and the other at the Sanford Ave intersection.
The contractor will inform the residents when they replace damaged curbs at their driveway entrances. During this time, the residents will not be able to drive in and out of their driveways for a few days.
