The SC General Assembly passed Act 176, SC Business Licenses Tax Standardization Act, to streamline the business license process by creating the same process for taxing jurisdictions across the state. As of January 1, 2022, all municipalities in South Carolina that levy business license tax must comply with the law.

Every person engaged or intending to engage in any calling, business, occupation, or profession referenced in whole or in part within the limits of the Town is required to pay an annual business license fee based on gross income. Business licenses are valid for one year beginning May 1 expiring April 30. To avoid penalties, all licenses must be renewed between February 1 and April 30 each year. Here is the business license required documentation checklist.

Customers can come to the municipal center, call, or email for assistance. To apply for a license online, visit our online services portal.

The 2026-2027 license renewals will start on February 1, 2026. All renewals are due by April 30, 2026. If you submit your application after the deadline, then late penalties will be added to your license fee. There are new documentation requirements for this year. Not all the listed documents will pertain to every company. It will depend on your trade type. Click here for checklist.
