The Highway Department maintains roads which are listed on the official Trousdale County Road List.  Since we are a metropolitan government we are responsible for repairing and maintaining the city and county roads listed on the official road list.  State roads and any other roads which are not listed on the County Commission approved Road List cannot be worked on by the Highway Department.  There are 191 miles on the current Road List.  This department is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of city and county bridges.

The Highway Department operates under the Tennessee County Uniform Highway Law.  This department is funded from the state fuel tax.  The Road Superintendent is elected for a four (4) year term.
