Marriage License Information:
Marriage licenses are available by appointment only. Please call (860) 945-5230.
Note: You must obtain a marriage license in the Connecticut town where the marriage is taking place. The Watertown Town Clerk’s Office issues Marriage Licenses to couples who wish to marry in Watertown or Oakville.
- The marriage couple must both appear in person at the Town Clerk's office. The license is valid for up to sixty-five (65) days from the date of issue. Your wedding date must not be more than 65 days after you apply for the license.
- Each party to the marriage must be at least 18 years of age to apply for the license.
- The fee for a license is $50.
- Please choose your officiator and set the date of your wedding BEFORE applying for a marriage license. We ask that you provide us with the name of the person performing the ceremony and their telephone number.
- Both parties must come to the Town Clerk’s office with a government-issued photo identification (ie: driver’s license or passport) to complete a detailed worksheet and to take an oath. Please furnish your officiator’s name and contact information; preferably a phone number.
- If a person who wishes to marry has a Conservator, the Conservator must appear in person with a government issued photo identification, proof of Conservatorship, and a written statement of consent.
- Marriage Licenses are issued Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.
- A list of Justices of the Peace who reside in Watertown and Oakville can be furnished upon request.
- It is required that the Officiator return the license to the Town Clerk after the ceremony. Certified copies of the license may be purchased after they are received for record in the Town Clerk’s office from the Officiator for $20.
