A group of trained volunteers known as the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) can help the community in multiple capacities. While their primary training includes disaster medical operations, team organization, light search and rescue, and fire safety for basic disaster response, they also provide valuable support during special large community events such as marathons, swimathons, and other public gatherings. These volunteers help ensure public safety and organization during both emergency and non-emergency situations.

Anyone who lives on Kiawah Island is eligible to apply to join CERT.
