TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY TAX
A Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) of 10% (Measure A) is charged for all people who exercise occupancy at a hotel in the City of La Mirada (Chapter 3.06 City Municipal Code).
“Transient” means any person, organization, etc. who exercises occupancy or is entitled to occupancy by reason of concession permit, right of access, license or other agreement for a period of thirty consecutive calendar days or less, counting portions of calendar days as full days.
TOT taxes are paid by the hotel guests and remitted to the City by the hotels on a monthly/quarterly basis.
The City provides for TOT exemptions in specific circumstances as specified in the Municipal Code. A TOT exemption form must be submitted to the hotel at time of check-in.
Exemption for non-transient stays over 30 consecutive calendar days
Application for Transient Occupancy Registration Certificate - due within 30 days of start of business
