The Planning Division helps guide the City’s growth and development to ensure a safe, attractive, and well-planned community. The Division reviews proposed projects to ensure they comply with the City of La Mirada’s Zoning Ordinance, General Plan, and other applicable regulations.

The Division is organized into two key areas:

Current Planning focuses on the review of development proposals, including residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This includes processing applications, evaluating site plans and design, coordinating environmental review, and ensuring projects comply with zoning and land use regulations.

Advanced Planning focuses on long-range planning efforts that shape the City’s future. This includes maintaining and updating the General Plan, Zoning Map, and Municipal Code, preparing specific plans and policy documents, and supporting community-wide planning initiatives.

We work closely with residents, property owners, business owners, and developers to explain local land use and design requirements, and to help move projects from concept to approval.

Through thoughtful planning and consistent standards, the Planning Division helps create a well balanced and desirable community. These efforts enhance quality of life and support La Mirada as a great place to live, work, and invest.
